About
Sharin Butani is a Goa-based contemporary artist, former journalist, and the creator of Philu & Nobi — two characters who have quietly found their way into people's hearts and homes.
During Covid, what began as a hobby, soon became something much bigger. Philu, her spirited cartoon woman, was born — and she resonated. As someone once noted, Sharin is perhaps the only artist who has depicted a woman joyfully enjoying her drink, in a world where such pleasures are almost always reserved for men in art. Philu broke that mould, and people loved her for it.
Accompanying Philu is Nobi — a cat named after Sharin's very own real-life feline companion. Together, Philu & Nobi are not just drawn characters; each piece carries its own story, its own mood, its own little world.
But Sharin's creativity doesn't stop at cartoons. She paints whimsical animals on metal and wood, and crafts intricate miniature houses from wood — each one a testament to her love for slow, intentional making. Rooted in the 'proudly Goan' and 'slow-crafted' ethos, her work is an invitation to pause, smile, and see the world a little more whimsically.
